UN Secretary General calls for respect for international humanitarian law

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on all warring parties to respect international humanitarian law, saying he was 'saddened' by the siege of Gaza. He said he was 'saddened' by Israel's pressure to impose a total blockade on Gaza. Al Jazeera news.

He further said, I am deeply saddened by this announcement. Israel will begin a total blockade of the Gaza Strip. No electricity, food or fuel can enter there. Before this hostilities, the humanitarian situation in Gaza was dire. Now it will deteriorate rapidly.

The time has come to end the vicious cycle of bloodshed, hatred and polarization, he remarked.
