Germany's Hamburg airport suddenly suspended all flights on Monday afternoon. No aircraft has flown there for a long time. The Associated Press reported this news on Monday night.
Security forces in Hamburg told AP that the move came in response to a threat of a terrorist attack on a flight departing from Iran. Flights from other countries arriving at this time were diverted and flights to Hamburg were informed that they would be delayed.
The incident happened around 12:30 PM local time in Germany. Flights were suspended from 12:40 local time.
Germany's federal police said they received a mail on Monday morning threatening a terrorist attack on a flight from Tehran to Hamburg. They have taken this matter seriously and have taken necessary steps.
Although they did not say anything in detail about this.
The flight from Iran landed in Hamburg at 12:20 pm. Then all 198 passengers and 16 crew on board were searched. Their luggage and seats were also searched. After that the entire aircraft is also thoroughly checked.
Authorities did not say whether anything was found during the security search. Later, flight operations were also normalized at the airport.
The German Air Force said the plane, which had come from Tehran, was escorted from East Berlin as it entered Germany.
