The latest in the Hamas-Israel war

 

Gaza's ruling group Hamas has carried out surprise attacks on Israel for the fourth day. More than 1,000 people have been killed in Israel so far. And Israel's counter-attack has killed more than 800 people in Palestine. Hamas fighters have taken more than 150 Israeli hostages. Attacks and counter-attacks by both sides have created a terrible situation in Gaza and Israel.

• Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia expressed support for the Palestinians.

• Iran's Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Al Khamenei, has said Israel is responsible for the massacre of Hamas. He said, "We kiss the hands of those who plan to attack the Zionist regime." But he denied Iran's involvement in the attacks by Hamas fighters.

• US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken spoke by telephone with Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen to discuss support for Israel. Blinken said the United States would continue its efforts to ensure the immediate release of all hostages.

• The Palestinian death toll has exceeded 830, with more than 4,000 injured, the health ministry said.

• The Israeli death toll exceeds 1,000, the Israeli Embassy in the United States reports.

• The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) says the bodies of 1,500 Hamas fighters have been found in Israel and around the Gaza Strip.

• Israel's ambassador to the United Nations, Gilad Erdan, said that 'between 100 and 150 people are being held hostage' in Gaza after being kidnapped from Israel.

• Hamas warned on Monday evening that it would kill hostages seized from Israel if Israel continued airstrikes without warning. Western leaders strongly condemned this threat.

• Ismail Haniyeh, the head of Hamas's political bureau, said he would not discuss the hostages until the war ends.

• The Israeli Air Force attacked at least 200 Hamas targets overnight. 35 battalions of the Israeli army have been deployed along the Gaza border.

• UNICEF calls for a humanitarian corridor in and out of Gaza. Because Israel cut off fuel, electricity and water supplies. Hospitals in Gaza are without electricity.

• Gaza's fuel could run out within days, plunging the Gaza Strip into darkness, the United Nations said.

• Egypt's Rafah crossing closed due to Israeli bombing. This is the only way for people to get out of besieged Gaza. Israel has also closed its border with Gaza.

• Oil prices rose on concerns that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict could disrupt fuel supplies from the Middle East.
