Death toll rises to 82 in Sikkim floods

In the Indian state of Sikkim, the death toll rose to 82 due to severe floods and disasters. On Sunday (October 8), the bodies of 9 more people were recovered from the Teesta river. News from Times of India.

According to the state's disaster management ministry, 23 army personnel were among the dead. 10 of whom have been identified. They have been handed over to their families. However, 142 people are still missing. A search operation is underway to rescue them alive. However, rescue operations are hampered due to inclement weather.

Incidentally, Pramatta Teesta river dam broke after heavy rains. As a result, heavy floods started in Sikkim from last week. Moreover, neighboring Jalpaigundi-Cochbehar and Bangladesh were also affected by floods.
